Photography affords an artist many ways to view the  world.  Through the lens, one can compose an image, recreate and and subjectively capture a specific moment in time, telling a story or evoking a mood. Often we try to record what someone else  has casually overlooked. My goal is to illuminate the extraordinary moments within the ordinary ones.

There is no doubt that my work has a distinct sense of nostalgia.  Many of the pieces found on this site explore a sense of place or time that recalls the past or that just seems simpler. Living in Montclair NJ,  I have especially come to appreciate local landmarks, among them the Van Vleck House and Gardens. This  private estate on 5.8 acres with beautiful gardens  noted for rhododendrons and azaleas cultivated by  Howard Van Vleck, affords me a perfect subject. It inspires me with it’s grandeur, romance and  the majesty of the previous century.

I enjoy using various techniques for creating my images. After many years of traditional  landscape and portrait photography, I began to experiment with polaroid transfers. This printing method appeals to me because while using actual photographs, one can create painterly, ethereal images and the process allows for subtle variations from one image to the next.
